Xiaomi's Smart Air Purifier 4 Lite is now officially listed in Nepal at Rs 27,999, and it is one of the few air purifiers in this price range that publishes a full CADR figure and a rated coverage area. Before buying any purifier for a Kathmandu bedroom or office, it is worth checking whether those numbers match your actual room, and what the ongoing filter cost will look like. This guide walks through the checks that matter.

The headline specs, verified

According to Xiaomi's official product pages, the Smart Air Purifier 4 Lite (model AC-M17-SC) delivers a particle Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 360 cubic metres per hour and is rated for rooms between 25 and 43 square metres. Its three-in-one filter combines Xiaomi's high-efficiency filter, a True HEPA layer, and activated carbon, which the company says captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 micrometres. GadgetByte confirmed the official Nepal price of Rs 27,999, with availability through authorized Xiaomi stores. AC Ghar currently lists the same AC-M17-SC model at Rs 27,499.

Check 1: Match CADR to your room, not the marketing

The 360 m3/h CADR figure sounds abstract until you convert it to your room. A typical Kathmandu bedroom of about 12 square metres with a 2.6 metre ceiling holds roughly 31 cubic metres of air. At full speed, the purifier can theoretically cycle that air many times per hour, so it runs comfortably below maximum and stays quieter. A large open-plan living room of 40 square metres pushes against the top of the rated 25 to 43 square metre range, where the unit has to work at higher speeds to make a difference.

The practical check: measure your room in square metres. Under 25, the 4 Lite is oversized in a good way. Between 25 and 43, it works but will spend more time on medium or high. Over 43, look at a larger model instead of running this one flat out all day.

Check 2: Night mode noise versus maximum noise

Xiaomi quotes two very different sound figures, and both matter. In Night Mode, the purifier runs as low as 33.4 dB(A) with the display light off, which is close to the level of a quiet room. The rated maximum noise is 61 dB(A), which is comparable to normal conversation. If the purifier will live in a bedroom, ask the seller to demonstrate Night Mode, and check that the air quality indicator still updates while the display is off. If it will sit in a living room where the TV masks fan noise, the higher speed matters less.

Check 3: Ask about replacement filters before buying

Every HEPA purifier is a subscription to its own filters. The 4 Lite uses a single combined cartridge that eventually saturates and needs replacement, and the Mi Home app tracks filter life as a percentage. The check that saves money: before paying, ask the shop two questions. Do they stock the official replacement filter for the AC-M17-SC, and what does it cost? A purifier at Rs 27,499 with no local filter supply is a worse deal than one at Rs 27,999 with filters on the shelf. Also ask how often the filter typically needs changing under Kathmandu dust conditions, since manufacturer filter-life estimates assume average pollution, and valley air in winter is not average.

Check 4: The price gap is small, but stock and service are not

There is only Rs 500 between the official Rs 27,999 and AC Ghar's Rs 27,499 listing, so price should not drive this decision. What should: whether the seller is an authorized Xiaomi channel, what warranty support they provide, and whether the unit is sealed stock. Ask for the warranty terms in writing and keep the invoice, since Xiaomi service centres will want proof of purchase.

Where it fits in a Nepal home

The 4 Lite's sweet spot is a bedroom or a small office that stays closed while it runs, where Night Mode keeps it unobtrusive and the laser particle sensor gives you a live PM2.5 readout on the display and in the Mi Home app. It is less suited to open-plan spaces or rooms where doors and windows stay open all day, since no purifier can win against a constant stream of outside air.

For households comparing options, the checks above apply to every purifier on the market: match CADR to the room, hear the noise levels in person, price the replacement filters, and buy from a channel that will answer the phone in six months. If those checks pass, the Smart Air Purifier 4 Lite's published specs and official Nepal pricing make it a straightforward shortlist candidate.
