ZTE has trimmed the Nepal prices of its budget nubia A57 and A77 phones, and in a season when most brands are raising prices, any cut stands out. The drop is small, though, and these are unusual phones in a crowded segment, so a few checks matter before spending Rs 22,000 to Rs 26,000 on either one.

The new prices, verified

TechLekh's October update reports the nubia A57 now starts at Rs 21,999 for the 4/64GB variant, a Rs 1,000 cut, while the 4/128GB version dropped Rs 500 to Rs 24,499. The nubia A77, sold only as 4/128GB, also fell Rs 500 to Rs 25,499. Both are available at ZTE authorized stores across Nepal, and TechLekh notes both can be bought on 0% EMI plans, as with last year's models.

Check 1: Read the cut against the launch price, not the headline

A Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 reduction is a gesture, not a bargain event. TechLekh points out the A57's pricing looked steep from the start: last year's nubia A56 launched at just Rs 11,999 for a 4/128GB phone, and this year's A57 asks nearly double for the 4/64GB variant even after the cut. That does not make the A57 a bad phone, but it means the value case rests on what else Rs 22,000 to Rs 25,500 buys you in Nepal right now, and this segment is the most competitive in the market. Before paying, price two or three rivals from Redmi, Realme, and Infinix at the same shop and compare what you get for the same money.

Check 2: Know exactly what separates the A57 from the A77

The two phones share the same basic platform: 4GB of RAM, a UNISOC processor, and similar styling. The meaningful difference is the camera. The A57 carries a 13MP main camera, while the A77 steps up to a 50MP main sensor; both have the same 8MP selfie camera. Storage is the other fork: the A57 offers 64GB or 128GB, the A77 only 128GB. So the decision tree is simple. If photos matter, the A77's 50MP sensor is the reason to spend more. If they do not, the A57 4/64 at Rs 21,999 is the budget pick, provided 64GB is enough for your apps and photos. One caution from TechLekh: ZTE's promotional material promises Super Night Shots, but with no detailed camera hardware published, treat low-light claims as unproven until you see real samples.

Check 3: Ask the rare-phone questions before buying

These are not globally common devices. TechLekh notes the A57 and A77 are so rare that major phone databases had not listed them at launch, and before Nepal they were sold mainly in select African markets. That is not automatically a problem, but it makes two questions worth asking at the store. First, software support: how many Android updates does ZTE promise for these models, in writing? Second, service: where is the authorized service center for your city, and do they stock parts? A cheap phone with no local parts pipeline becomes expensive the first time it breaks.

Check 4: If budget is tight, use the EMI route deliberately

With 0% EMI available at authorized stores, the A57 and A77 can be had for a small upfront amount. That is genuinely useful for students and first-job buyers, but do the EMI math honestly: confirm the monthly figure, the tenure, the total payable, and any processing fee before signing. Zero percent interest should mean the installments add up to exactly the sticker price, so if they add up to more, ask why.

The bottom line

The price cut makes the nubia A57 and A77 slightly easier to recommend, but the smart move is unchanged: compare them against the strong competition at Rs 22,000 to Rs 26,000, pick the A77 only if its 50MP camera matters to you, and get written answers on updates and service before the money moves.
