Huawei launched the Mate 90 series in China on October 1, 2026: the Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, and Mate 90 Pro Max, plus an RS Ultimate Design edition. The cameras and batteries are genuinely impressive. But if you are reading this in Nepal, the honest answer is that none of this is officially coming your way yet. Here is the full picture, as of October 18, 2026.

The Hardware, in Short

The Mate 90 Pro Max is the headline act. According to GadgetByte and GSMArena's spec sheets, it carries a 50MP main camera with a variable f/1.4 to f/4.0 aperture, a 40MP ultrawide, and a 200MP periscope telephoto with 4x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom. The 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED runs at an adaptive 1-120Hz with a claimed 12,000-nit peak brightness (GSMArena notes this is measured at an isolated spot during video playback, so treat it as a lab number). Inside is Huawei's Kirin 9050 or 9050 Pro chip, and a 6,800mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. There is even a Collector's Edition that bolts on a 1-inch sensor Z10 modular lens with 10x continuous optical zoom.

The regular Mate 90 and Mate 90 Pro share a 6.75-inch 120Hz OLED, a 6,600mAh battery, and a triple 50MP main, telephoto, and 40MP ultrawide setup. The Pro gets the newer Kirin 9035 chip, a brighter dual-layer panel, and 100W charging; the standard Mate 90 runs the Kirin 9030 with 66W charging. All three phones carry IP68 and IP69 ratings and Huawei's Kunlun Glass 3.

On paper, this is competitive with any 2026 flagship.

The Price Reality for Nepal

Official China pricing starts at CNY 5,999 for the Mate 90, CNY 6,999 for the Mate 90 Pro, and CNY 9,499 for the Mate 90 Pro Max. GadgetByte's expected Nepal figures work out to roughly Rs 2.36 lakh for the Mate 90, Rs 2.73 lakh for the Mate 90 Pro, and around Rs 2.19 lakh for the Pro Max by direct conversion. Read those numbers carefully: they are currency conversions and estimates, not launch prices. No Nepal price exists because no Nepal launch has been announced.

History suggests you should not hold your breath. The Mate 80 series launched in China in late 2025 and never officially arrived in Nepal. Huawei's official local lineup has settled on the nova midrange series, while its flagship Mate line has stayed China-focused. As of mid-October 2026, there is no word from Huawei Nepal about the Mate 90 series.

The Google Question

This is the part that matters most in daily use. The Mate 90 series runs HarmonyOS 7, not Android with Google services. That means no Play Store, no native YouTube, Gmail, or Google Maps. Huawei's AppGallery and workarounds cover a lot of ground, but before spending flagship money, check whether the specific apps you rely on every day, your mobile banking, wallet, and work apps, actually work properly on HarmonyOS. For many Nepali users, this alone is the deciding factor, and it has nothing to do with how good the camera is.

If You Are Still Tempted

Some enthusiasts will import one anyway. Three practical checks first. One, MDMS registration: any phone brought in from abroad must be registered in Nepal Telecommunications Authority's MDMS system (mdms.nta.gov.np), or it will stop working on Nepali SIMs after the grace period. Two, warranty: a China-unit Mate 90 has no official warranty or service path in Nepal, so a hardware fault means paying out of pocket. Three, bands and software: confirm the model supports the local network bands, and accept that some HarmonyOS features and the Xiaoyi assistant are built around Chinese services.

The Verdict

The Mate 90 Pro Max is one of the most interesting phones of 2026, and the 200MP periscope plus modular lens option shows Huawei is still pushing camera hardware hard. But for buyers in Nepal, this is a "watch from a distance" launch: no official price, no official launch, no Google, and no local warranty. If you need a phone you can actually buy, register, and service here, browse the officially available options in our smartphone catalog or our regularly updated mobile price in Nepal guide. We will update if Huawei Nepal announces anything.

Prices and launch details above are as reported on October 2-18, 2026 by the sources linked. NikoDeal does not stock Huawei phones; this article is a buyer's guide, not a product listing.
